When I run Astronaut on Foot (with window size bigger than the
default) sometimes there is a very high spike on memory and CPU
usage and after a few seconds Astronaut crashes (along with Foot).
Sometimes it also happens when I run it on Gnome Terminal.

Can you give more details? How much memory and CPU is astronaut using
exactly?

Also, can you share the error message that was shown when astronaut
crashed?

Astronaut currently has lots of room for improvement with regards to
performance and memory usage. Thanks for the report!

It is similar to if you write a program that calls malloc in a loop.

There was no error message. The terminal crashed along with Astronaut.

I tried piping stderr of Foot and Astronaut to a file. Astronaut's
one was empty and Foot's one only had Foot's usual log messages.

Without.

This starts happening immediately after I run Astronaut. The
terminal window becomes blank and remains blank until it chashes.

That's strange. Does this happen only with large terminal sizes? If so,
how large? And what platform are you running astronaut on?

No. It happens on nearly any size i have tried which is larger than the
default size. And after a few try i have found that It also happens on
the default size (700x500 pixels).

If the window size is bigger, like 1200x900 pixels (by setting it in
foot.ini), the chances of it happening on the first or second try is
very high.

Linux fedora 5.11.12-300.fc34.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Apr 7 16:31:13 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It happens both when the terminal (Foot and Gnome Terminal) is running on
Gnome(Wayland) and Sway.

Now I have found that it also happens on Linux console. (it took a few
more tries to find it.)

Another question: which commit of astronaut are you using? I assume you
are building from source (as there hasn't been an official stable
release yet). Have you tried upgrading to the latest commit?

I am using the latest commit and building from source.

I have managed to reproduce this. The fact that it only occurs sometimes
means that it is likely caused by a race condition. I'll investigate
further.

I pushed a commit which should resolve the issue. Could you try it out 
and let me know if it works for you?
