Hi,
on my system it seems as though org-contrib cannot be installed, as it
is marked as "incompatible". Here a snippet from the *Help* Buffer:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
Package org-contrib is incompatible.
Status: Incompatible because it depends on uninstallable packages.
Archive: nongnu
Version: 0.2
Summary: Unmaintained add-ons for Org-mode
Requires: emacs-25.1, org-9.4.5 (not available)
Website: https://git.sr.ht/~bzg/org-contrib
Keywords: org
Maintainer: Bastien Guerry <bzg@gnu.org>
Author: Bastien Guerry <bzg@gnu.org>
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
I don't know why org-9.4.5 is not available (I have 9.4.4 installed, and
ELPA has 9.5), maybe it should be updated to 9.5?

Hi Philip,
thanks for the feedback.

AFAIK org-9.4.5 is available on GNU ELPA. Can you install it manually
and see if it solves this issue?
I'd rather not update the dependency to 9.5 right now, it would force
org-contrib users to migrate while they might not be ready for that.
Thanks,

Actually I just released org-contrib 0.3 and updated org dependency to
the latest bugfix release there (9.4.6).
Let me know if this fixes the problem you reported.

Sorry for the last response (I was waiting for NonGNU to rebuild), but
no org-contrib is still marked as incompatible, for the same reason.

That's weird, especially because the org dependency was updated in the
latest org-contrib version, that is 0.3.
Can you report again what error message you get this time?
Thanks for this,

The *Packages* buffer says:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
org-contrib 0.3 incompat nongnu Unmaintained add-ons for Org-mode
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
and on further inspection I get
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---

Hi Philip,
I've checked with the GNU ELPA maintainers and things look fine on
their end, I don't know what goes wrong on yours.
I hope this will somehow resolve.
Thanks,

What I can add is that this doesn't seem to be an issue on Emacs 27,
just on Emacs 28. I just pulled and rebuilt the emacs-28 branch, and the
issue persists. On my system I apparently can replicate the issue
reliably using emacs -Q. Deleting
.config/emacs/elpa/archives/gnu/archive-contents doesn't seem to change
anything.

Right, thanks for the additional info. Can you report this to the
Emacs developers? M-x report-emacs-bug RET
Thanks!

Yes, even after updating to Emacs 29.0. I suspect this is ultimately an
issue in package.el.

Okay, thanks. If you can tell or remind me where can I follow the
discussion about the issue in package.el, that'd be great - not sure
if I can do anything here, but the issue is intriguing.
Thanks,
