Hi Daniel,

One and a half year ago, I decided to evaluate the usage of Sourcehut
for this mailing list and continuous integration while hosting
nitrokey-rs’ and nitrokey-sys-rs’ source code at git.ireas.org. I think
it is time to end this evaluation period and settle with one platform.

I have been very happy with Sourcehut. It has been very stable and
highly available, and I like its user interface (web, email and API). I
realize that some users might be more confident with GitHub et al., but
honestly, I’m not expecting any third-party contributions to
nitrokey*-rs. Even nitrocli has not had a single pull request from a
third party, and most nitrocli users probably don’t even know about
nitrokey*-rs.

Therefore, I would like to keep the project on Sourcehut and even move
the Git repository there. (While the SSH Git access used to be quite
slow, it has significantly improved within the last year and now it is
just as fast as my private server.)

What do you think? How was your Sourcehut experience? Would this be
okay for you?

/Robin

Hi Robin,

That's fine with me, of course. The truth is that other than knowing
that you hosted the mailing list there I had no contact with the web
interface or API that I can actually think of. Well, perhaps I dug out a
link to an old thread at some point and I certainly don't recall any
issues. So I'd say that's as good for an infrastructure-type service as
it gets :-) I don't think I've ever cloned a git repository hosted
there, but I am confident that it will just work.

So go for it.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

thanks for your reply!

Even if I don’t expect any third-party contributions, I think it would
be good to provide some information on how to contribute. I prepared a
general contributing guide that I’d like to link in the readme. Could
you please have a look if anything is unclear or missing?

Thanks,

Hi Robin,

Looks like a good summary! I think the first bullet point in the `Tips
for git send-email` section is already covered earlier in the example.
Not sure if it makes sense to duplicate. I can't think of anything that
is missing right off the bat.

One thing I got reminded of now that you moved: I was using the Atom
commit feed for some of your repositories (e.g.,
https://git.ireas.org/nitrokey-rs/atom/?h=master). But I haven't found
something similar on Sourcehut. Are you aware of anything?

Good point. Even the subject prefix is already shown in the example.
I’ll fix that.

Not Atom, but there is an XML feed:
	https://git.sr.ht/~ireas/nitrokey-rs/log/rss.xml
It is available for logs and refs via the RSS button in the upper right
corner.
