Hey,

I noticed you applied to be the aerc maintainer and decided to read over
some of your blog posts. In your post titled "Don't call it Free
Software"[1], you state the following with a complimenting diagram:

> If by “free software” you mean freeware, then it is [...]

However, this is rather explicitly not (necessarily) the case, as
mentioned in the GNU page you link as well as their clarifiaction[3].

Thanks,
Steven

I know. This was actually the exact point I meant. Libre Software does not necessarily mean freeware (although it would be impossible to prevent the user from sharing their copy, which in my eyes is part of the beauty).
I'm the Reddit post I linked, there is a guy pretty much stating: "free software just means it doesn't cost anything". With "free" software this ambiguity and the ensuing confusion is only natural. That's exactly why I've taken on Libre if I am not 100% sure the person I speak to understands what I mean.

And thanks for your comment. :D

One of the "bad" parts of not using analytics is that you don't know if you just shout into a void.

Hm, I read your statement and diagram as Free/Libre Software is freeware
+ freedoms, but my point is that it isn't *necessarily* freeware. For
software to be Free/Libre Software it doesn't need to be freeware, just
freedoms.

I think the correct diagram would have part of Libre Software outside of
the Freeware bubble.

Thanks,
Steven

Correction: Part of Libre Software should also be outside of Open Source

Whoops nevermind. I meant to say that not all Open Souce is Libre
Software and you already show that. The rest still stands, I think.
