Hello,
On behalf of the ERIS maintainers, it it my great pleasure to announce
the release of ERIS v1.0.0:
https://codeberg.org/eris/spec/src/tag/v1.0.0
ERIS defines an encoding of arbitrary content into a set of uniformly
sized, encrypted and content-addressed blocks as well as a short
identifier that can be encoded as an URN. The content can be reassembled
from the blocks only with this identifier
The rendered specification is available at http://purl.org/eris .
With the release of ERIS v1.0.0, the encoding is considered to be
stable. Subsequent v1.x.y releases will be backwards compatible with
v1.0.0. See also the section on versioning
(http://purl.org/eris#name-changelog).
This is a major milestone and allows usage of ERIS in various
applications without worrying about future changes to the encoding.
Changes introduced with v1.0.0 include:
- Change order of ChaCha20 nonce used to encrypt blocks by placing level
in the first byte
- Update URN scheme to eris
Please see the Changelog for a complete list of changes
(http://purl.org/eris#name-changelog).
Implementors are kindly requested to upgrade their implemntations to
ERIS v1.0.0. Also note the new section with implementation notes
(http://purl.org/eris#name-implementation-notes).
We look forward to hearing about your implementations, applications and
ideas. This mailing-list and the #eris channel on the Libera IRC network
are good places for general discussion and for getting help.
Best regards,
pukkamustard
