Hi,
We are using the Damn project to solve notes, which is very helpful.
We want to take a step forward and create a methodology to solve notes in real-time. I mean, while people are on the ground, they create notes, and armchair volunteers can solve them or ask questions with comments about the notes.
We see the DAMN project could help us with this. Our idea is that when one “locks” an area in JOSM, the DAMN plugin automatically and periodically downloads the notes in that area. This way, the mapper can continue mapping in JOSM and receive updates on the notes in its area without switching to another application (browser, RSS feeder). When the mapper clicks on Done or To review, the refresh mechanism is stopped. This also prevents people working on the same note or people continuously looking for updates in other tools (RSS, etc.), and everything is on JOSM.
This scenario is very appropriate for disaster response or when having a mapping party with people on the ground and people on computers.
We see that notes could enable this communication channel, and DAMN can be a mechanism to register and activate it.
Please let me know what you think.

I am glad the project is useful.

Downloading notes "automatically" is already implemented, but not
enabled by default. Please, see the *Preferences* in JOSM, then check
*Expert Mode*, then select *Advanced Preferences*, and find
damn.download_notes_automatically
Downloading notes "periodically" should be doable. What is the preferred
default frequency of periodical download?
Hello again,
I have updated the DAMN plugin. Feel free to upgrade to version 0.7.0.

There is a change in the downloading notes automatically. The JOSM
preference
damn.download_notes_automatically
is not needed anymore and will be removed in the future. To enable
downloading notes automatically, please, update your area in the manager
[1]. Particularly, in the instructions sections, use
+ add configuration: _download_notes_automatically
You may need to refresh the manager web page with ctrl + shift + R (in
Firefox) to see that option.

This was added in v0.7.0. Notes of the square are downloaded
periodically (10 minutes by default) when working on the square. To set
the period (in minutes), use
damn.download_notes_period_minutes
in JOSM *Advanced Preferences* (*Expert Mode* needs to be enabled).

Perfect option! Works great btw... So i can disable
"damn.download_notes_automatically" on Josm?

If i put 0 minutes the option could be disabled? I mean, this
auto-period-download is perfect... But in some cases with large highways
10 minutes is not enough :-) ... Anyway i can put 100 minutes and don't
have the refresh problem to the circle area, but i'm only asking.
Thanks!

Yes, you can disable it. But do not forget to update your areas in the
manager [1].
damn.download_notes_automatically will be removed from the JOSM
configuration in the future.

Yes, you can disable automatic download by putting 0 in the
damn.download_notes_period_minutes configuration.
I am also ok with changing the default value of 10 minutes, if you find
the better value.

Done :-)

Well i think maybe this option should be disabled by default? ( 0
minutes )... Because its for some specific task like monitor real time
notes, or i'm wrong? Andres could give us some info :-)
