Patch: +6 -0
From: Moritz Poldrack <git@moritz.sh>

This icon can be used to represent aerc as a desktop icon, on websites,
or wherever else is appropriate.

Since seeing an SVG just from it's code, it looks something like this:

Hi Moritz,

Thanks for the icon idea! I am sending this to aerc-discuss and the
original mailing list as well.

The icon file should probably be installed in $PREFIX/share/aerc/icons
and referenced in aerc.desktop.

I am not fond of the style but this is my personal opinion. In fact,
I prefer the ASCII-art version of it! :)

Since this is a matter of taste, I think we should have a contest to see
if others would be interested in submitting a logo.

Also, maybe we should define a few guidelines: do we need a single logo
that can be used for dark and light backgrounds? Do we want a wide logo
for websites and a square icon for favicon, XDG desktop file?

Any thoughts?

Good point. Will send a v2 if it's approved of.

The thing with the ASCII version is that it really doesn't scale well.

I'd say we make a submission phase of say 2 weeks, collect them and then
make another poll.

Regarding format I'd say an icon should be a must, if banners are wanted
you could add one and it should be SVG so it's colours can be easily
adapted.

Since Aerc is an email client that starts with ⟨A⟩, what about a
modified version of the at-sign with a capital ⟨A⟩ instead of a
lowercase ⟨a⟩?

Why not *just* an '@' in an open-source font-face? Or maybe 'æ'?

I feel like that could be any mail client, so if a user has multiple
installed, it could cause confusion.

I think this misses the purpose of an icon, being a distinguishable,
unique representation of the program. The æ with some extras like an
@-circle might be a better fit.

I do like the idea of an @-style encircled 'æ'. And I agree that it does need to be distinct, not simply a particular character already in a typeface.

+1 for 'æ' with an @-circle.

I love the idea of an æ with a circle around it!
