I just saw this thread and wanted to contribute with the project
But I find myself lacking some context to what this task is about,
could I ask for some place to start looking to better understand how
to approach the issues under this project?
PS: I tried emailing before and it went from the mail app from mac and
apparently it sent a bunch of empty emails? Sorry for that
All the best,
Max

thanks for your interest in Go-HEP.
as for the CERN hackathon, I am afraid you might be a little late to
join the party, as the deadline for submissions is in 13 hours.
(ie: May 16, 2022 @ 3:00pm PDT)
along the years, I've tried to label some issues with the "first-issue"
tag and/or with the "help-wanted" one, to build a pool of issues that I
had considered (at the time) as "easy" to whet one's appetite:
- https://github.com/go-hep/hep/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3A%22help+wanted%22
these issues may be the best issues to work on to get a feel of the
project.
I don't know (yet) what the other CERN hackathoners have worked on and
what will be the submissions about, so maybe (if you are still
interested in working on Go-HEP) working on the 3 proposals I had
drafted for the hackathon may not be the best investment of your time.
what are (or would be) your main interest(s) in Go-HEP?
groot? visualization (with hplot and/or gonum/plot)? I/O? performances?
building tools for data analyses?
let me know.

no worries. I don't think I received any of these empty emails.
(when did you try to send those?)
did you try to send them from the sr.ht web interface? or directly from
your mailer?
cheers,

ah! I just saw them in my other CERN inbox.
for the groot stuff, I had put together a couple of slides for an
"internal" meeting at my lab, that explains a bit how file formats (and
ROOT's) are working:
- https://talks.sbinet.org/2020/2020-06-26-lpc-dev-groot/talk.slide
and this one, which is more or less a rehash of the 2 above, but with
some more illustrations:
