I don't know why, but I can somehow create repositories and push changes
to it using SSH (https://git.sr.ht/~ephir/my-cool-project). Also, I can
do many other things, such as creating mailing list and bug trackers.
It is strange to me, since Sourcehut service requires money to use those
features.

Quote from <https://sourcehut.org/pricing>:
"Notice: sr.ht is currently in alpha, and the quality of the service may
reflect that. As such, payment is currently optional, and only
encouraged for users who want to support the ongoing development of the
site. For a summary of the guarantees and limitations that the alpha
entails, see this reference [1]."

Every service comes with a price.
It is up to our long term selfs what should preveal.
If it is up to me: The service should survive.

Paying sourcehut user
(at least did pay once (doesn't know about how "renewal" is configured))
P.S.
Regarding strange feelings: How to effect proud free loaders?

To be honest I think that that page could use a little help in
clarifying what Sourcehut offers, what is free and what will become
paid. A complete overview of Sourcehut services could probably help, I
was not able t ofind such a summary. Example:
----------s---------s----------
| Service | Description | Price |
|--------------|----------------------------------------------|-------------|
| git.sr.ht | Git source code hosting | Free to use |
| hg.sr.ht | Mercurial source code hosting | Free to use |
| lists.sr.ht | Mailing lists hosting | Free to use |
| todo.sr.ht | Ticketing system hosting | Free to use |
| pages.sr.ht | Static web hosting | Free to use |
| chat.sr.ht | Internet Relay Chat (IRC) service | Free to use |
| man.sr.ht | Markdown- and git-driven wikis | Free to use |
| paste.sr.ht | Ad-hoc source code and text snippets hosting | Free to use |
| builds.sr.ht | Continuous Integration | Free to use |
All services will become paid when Sourcehut enters beta phase. See the
[Alpha page][alpha] and [billing page][billing] for more details.

The information is a bit scattered indeed. It's explicitly called alpha
for a good reason. Besides, perhaps, the owners haven't decided and settled
on exact business model yet. Alpha and beta trials will help with that
too.
There is also this other bit at <https://meta.sr.ht/register>
about contributor/free vs maintainer/paid accounts. You have to be
signed out to avoid a redirect to see it. Alternatively, see it here:
I published an improved breakdown of what features are free/paid right
now, but the final status is indeterminate given that we have not worked
out what the final business model will be post alpha. The final details
will be worked out in consultation with the community.
