Hello everyone,

I tried to subscribe to the following mailing list:

https://lists.sr.ht/~protesilaos/modus-themes

using my email address:

gautier@gautierponsinet.xyz

but it doesn't work.

(It is the first time that I encounter a problem with this custom email
address. I am able to send/receive mails, and to subscribe to other
mailing lists such as the emacs-devel mailing list. Also, in order to
check that I was not doing any obvious mistake, I tried with another
email address and I was able to subscribe to the mailing list with it.)

Is there something I should setup correctly to subscribe to a sourcehut
mailing list with this email address?

All the best,
Gautier.

FWIW, I know people have trouble sending me email from *.xyz addresses
because apparently these domains are too often abused by spammers, so
messages from such domain carry a heavy "stigma".

Thank you for the information. I was not aware of this when I chose the
domain. This is unfortunate.

As owner of an .xyz domain I feel compelled to interject when the
argument is raised that .xyz domains are used by spammers.

This is NOT the case ANYMORE. Please check the statistics from
Spamhaus[0] or any other similar spam report entity.

The problem is that Spamassassin ACTIVELY REFUSED to update their
ruleset to reflect reality and demote the negative score they assign.
Sysadmins then understandably blindly apply these rulesets, thus
blocking us all.

On the bright side, it seems that /slowly/ we are getting there, the
Spamassassin ruleset was recently patched (see their mailing list[1]),
so there's hope that the situation will improve, as sysadmins will apply
the updated rulesets.

As you can imagine, this is a source of constant frustation for me.

I had a similar problem when I first set up my domain (originally choosing smlavine.xyz). I found that if sending a message with a .xyz link in Google Messages (SMS), the message would silently fail to actually send, while appearing sent to the sender. This led me to use smlavine.com instead.
